It seems that the rumors of Director Sam Raimi who has directed the past Web Slinger’s movies signing onto the project has been corrected. January 20, 2010 Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios both announced that Marc Webb will be directing the 4th installment to the Spiderman movies. You all would know him as the director of (500)Days of Summer.
Working closely with the writer and the producers of the movie, they estimate a release date of summer 2012. Production is predicted to begin later on this year.
Stan Lee, co-creator of Spider-Man, says, “I’m excited that Sony has chosen a director with a real penchant and understanding for the character. This is a brave, bold direction for the franchise, and I can’t wait to see what Marc comes up with next.”
Webb himself is just as excited stating, “This is a dream come true and I couldn’t be more aware of the challenge, responsibility or opportunity. Sam Raimi’s virtuoso rendering of Spider-Man is a humbling precedent to follow and build upon…”
Producers Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin are believe that Webb is “an incredibly talented filmmaker and [they] look forward to working closely with him on this new adventure.”
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President, only brings good words to the table as he too can’t wait to see how the Spidey movie will make it’s turn.
Everyone seems enthused by this decision, and will be waiting for further updates. Keep posted here for more Spiderman and other movie reviews and updates.
