If you have been following us here at Whargarbl TV for a while, first off I’d like to say “THANK YOU”, and secondly, you may have seen one of our older articles talking about the Marvel film adaptation of First Avenger: Captain America. For those of you who have not been here since the beginning of Whargarbl, you can look back at the article in our old “beta site’ www.whargarbltv.webs.com.
There I wrote about my “mini interview” with Ed Brubaker who told me that he could not say much about the film because of contract, but he mentioned how awesome the script was and that he was pleased with how it was coming along. Which brings Cap fan’s hearts at ease to know that Capt. America himself, Ed Brubaker was happy with the development of the project.
In a recent interview with filmjournal.com about his upcoming movie Wolfman, director Joe Johnston, briefly reveals that he will be directing The First Avenger: Captain America.
“We’re in prep,” Johnston says. “Rick Heinrichs is production-designing and we’re set up down in Manhattan Beach [California].
It’s the part of the process that I love the most,” he enthuses. “We have eight or ten really talented artists, and we all just sit around all day and draw pictures and say, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if we could do this?’ It’s that phase of the production where money doesn’t matter: βLet’s put all the greatest stuff up on the wall and [then later] see what we can afford.’” The film, he says at this early stage, will begin “in 1942, 1943″ during World War II. “The stuff in the β60s and β70s [comic books] we’re sort of avoiding. We’re going back to the β40s, and then forward to what they’re doing with Captain America now.”
This was all he mentioned about the movie during the interview. A bit exciting to know that the film might be in good hands with Joe Johnston who directed Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) and Jumanji (1995), the critically acclaimed October Sky (1999) and the cult classic The Rocketeer (1991). With his latest addition to the film world Wolfman due for release Feb 12, 2010. As he is in prep to start his next project, he still has to finish this one first. I’m sure there will be more information on the Capt. movie after the release of Wolfman.
