Go To Hell!!!…

If you’re Dante that is. Dante’s Inferno released in stores February 9, 2010, is based on the first part of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy called Inferno. So basically, the player takes command of Dante through the nine circles of Hell to save the poor soul of Beatrice (his lover). Equipped with “Death’s” Scythe, you run, slash, button-mash (ooooh that rhymes), absolve or punish your enemies. Sounds very similar to a certain Spartan that defied the Gods don’t you think?

I think that Dante’s story is very interesting and is worth playing through the whole game, but the gameplay is hard not to compare with God of War. This video game just bares several common traits. Among the button mashing, Dante’s Inferno borrows the quick-time events that God of War shares with it. Many of the enemies and boss battles are very similar in nature with the characters in God of War. I just can’t help but think which of these i am really playing. That’s how closely it resembles each other. Don’t get me wrong. Dante’s Inferno is a great game with a unique story, but after playing and reviewing God of War 3, it only comes close to what God of War 3 had to offer.

On a positive note, I believe the graphics and cutscenes from Dante’s Inferno are just stunning. Again, this game has a mature rating, so if the kids try and say “I want this game, mommy!!!” Just say NO!!! This video game has an ample amount of nudity, not to mention, enough blood and gore even Freddie Kreuger will get jealous of. Not for the faint of heart. There’s enough enemies to kill in every stage, although it becomes repetitive at times to see the same enemies and you think to yourself “Didn’t I just kill you??”

Overall, I think Dante’s Inferno deserves to be along side God of War and claim second as being a decent attempt to be one of few action/adventure, hack n slash video games out right now. With superb visuals and a great story, it’s worth renting for a weekend. But if you really want the best, you can’t go wrong with destroying a few Gods along the way with God of War 3. Dante’s Inferno just falls short of its big brother(GOW).

I give this game a 3.5/5. GO TO HELL INDEED!!!
