PS3 Firmware Update 3.21 is out

Those of you that have an older model of the PS3 (read: non-slim versions), and if you happen to have an “Other OS” installed, there’s an update out there to remove that functionality. So fay, looks like the only thing this update does is remove the “Install Other OS” and the ability to access an “Other OS” if one was previously installed.

This is sad news for a few people out there, but honestly, how many of us actually installed some form of Linux on our PS3′s? I remember trying to run Ubuntu 7.10, and man was it slow. If you can’t live without having Linux on your PS3, avoid the update for now. Rumor has it that this update was released specifically because of a hacker name Geohot and the fact that he used the “Other OS” to hack the PS3 in the first place. Also, according to Geohot, he’s coming up with a workaround, aka custom firmware, to keep the Other OS intact. Until then, if you want to keep playing games online, or look at those pretty God of War III trophies, you’ll need to do the update.
