Big F*ckin’ Deal. Big Freakin’ Deal….either way it’s a big deal!

*My “Cheap Ass” tickets for $10.50 each! (limited to 2 per person)

If you live in the Bay Area and you listen to 105.3 FM on the radio you’re probably hearing a lot about the upcoming June 6th, BFD Festival taking place at the Shoreline Amphitheater.
As always…Yes. It is a Big Freakin’ Deal!!!!! Year after year, over thirty bands play on four different stages at almost the same time. It’s up to you to catch your favorite bands or check out bands live that you’ve never heard before.

If you’re interested in attending this year’s Live 105 BFD concert grab your tickets as soon as you can! I decided to stand in line for three hours to get my “Cheap Ass” tickets the day ticket sales were available for only $10.50. Whoot! Whoot! Since all of those tickets are sold out, I would recommend getting a group of friends together to get a group deal instead of purchasing them separately for $32.50 plus a $12.35 convenience charge to total a whopping $44.85 per person if purchased separately at www.livenation.com with ticketmaster. If money isn’t an issue then awesome. They also have VIP passes which allows you to go into the areas where they provide some food and drink as well as a place to sit and relax. I tried that last year and wasn’t very impressed with it. I also did the group package last year and that worked out fine but why pay more for something when you can get it for less. If you missed out this year on the cheap tickets then try again next year!

If you choose to stay for the entire event, expect to spend at least 11 to 12 hours of your day listening, watching, breathing and feelin’ the music. The party starts at 11:00 am. So wake up and get ready for a day to remember! You’ll want to dance, eat, drink and party all day long. So bring as much cash as you’ll possibly need to collect memorabilia or to spend as you wish. If you’re a scraping for change person, I suggest to eat before you go and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. You will get hot, sweat and probably exhausted. Expect to be around thousands and thousands of people so constantly be aware of your surroundings. If you get claustrophobic then you might want to reconsider. If you partied hard the night before and or did a little “too much,” no worries. It’s more than likely half of the people that will be there will have done that too. It’ll be obvious once you get there. The aroma of the day before and or that morning will fill the air. You’ll see what I mean when you check it out.

BFD is a great time to hang out with your friends, create some awesome memories and kick back. Always grab the line up, find out where the stages are and check out the time that each group is playing so you can see all of your favorite artists all in one day. Or if you’re a go with the flow kind of person then just wander about listening to whatever melody draws you in. Just listen and do your thing. Last year at Live 105′s BFD Festival in 2009 I didn’t get to see Airborne Toxic Event live like I had wanted to but on my way there I listened to them live on the radio. So you can follow along with the radio station as you are traveling to your final destination.

In between the live shows music from bands that aren’t at the even will still be played so if not a single band on the line up is of interest to you they will still play popular songs that 105 listeners either request or whatever is of the DJ’s choosing.

*Loved the Dead Confederates so much that I bought their album. I first heard them live at BFD 2009. If a band can put on a great live show then usually they have a great album.

Playing on the main stage last year was the Dead Confederates who opened for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They were then followed by 311 and headliners at the end was The Offspring.

The Dead Confederates from Athens, Georgia in the USA, may have been new to my ears but out of all the bands playing on the main stage they were by far most impressive for an opener band. Consisting of John Watkins, Walker Howle, Brantley Senn, and Hardy Morris the band brings a grungy, timeless rock sound that strikes an internal chord inside of me that I can’t quite put my finger on to describe. They definitely seem to be reflecting a past of strife and mourning. The lyrics are reflective as well as unusual so I highly recommend some music lover elbow grease and make time to listen to these guys. Their album Wrecking Ball is in stores or download from your favorite site.

Last year, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs had a completely crazy and wildly entertaining performance. With lead singer Karen O‘s outstanding and gaudy costumes and strange body movement and stunts Nick Zinner (guitar/synth) and Brian Chase (on drums) didn’t phase at all while keeping the beat right on and  providing the audience with a great performance for half of the show. The other half I would have to say that the sound was of a little bit but live performances don’t always go as planned.
With that in mind The Offspring started their set out all wrong and it took a good five minutes for them to figure out what the hell they were doing. Either way The Offspring is well…The Offspring, so just seeing them was pretty neat.

My personal favorite on the mainstage during 2009 was 311′s Amber.

There are a number of bands from this years line up that I’m really excited to see for nostalgic reasons and newer bands for a more with the current times, see if they have the potential to stay or go reason. We all know of the classic bands that made it huge all over the world and the artists that will remain musical icons forever like Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Elvis Presley and The Rolling Stones for decades to come.  We all kind of wonder what artists will last and what artists will disappear into the “What ever happened to….” thought.

On the main stage this year, Sublime with Rome will be a little different to the ears considering Bradley Nowell, the original front man, died from a Heroin overdose in 1996. The music and lyrics for our favorite Sublime songs may be the same however the sound of Rome‘s voice singing it will probably be accompanied by the audiences voice to resurrect the memories that we all have carried while Nowell was still producing music with the band. Another unique band that will be playing with a bit of a history behind it will be Hole. How can we forget front woman and singer Courtney Love widowed by her late husband Kurt Cobain from Nirvana, who took his own life in 1994. With Love always being in the media because of her constant struggle with drug addiction, one can only hope that darkness doesn’t be fall her as well. To me, Love‘s voice always has sounded like a mans voice but I guess that’s to be expected if you’ve done too many drugs and or smoke too much.

You won’t forget an experience like a Live 105 BFD Festival and there’s nothing like seeing some of your favorite bands all at the same time in the same day. I’m really looking forward to seeing Temper Trap’s Sweet Disposition. Hope to see you there! Oh! I almost forgot! Don’t forget to wear sunscreen!
