Goo Goo Dolls: “Something For The Rest Of Us”

Welcome to another co-review. This time Maggie aka “G” and I (Acousticfan) bring you our review of the album Goo Goo Dolls: “Something For The Rest Of Us. It has been four years since their last album “Let Love In” was released on April 25, 2006. Well now they’re back with their nineth (not counting live and greatest hits  albums) studio album and that was released August 31, 2010 on the Warner Bothers Records label.

G’s thoughts on album:
“I like the Goo Goo Dolls but there are very few songs that they have produced where I really enjoy listening to. This album is too predictable for me. There were only a couple of songs on it that I thought were going to get really interesting and I was disappointed halfway through them but I suppose I should have expected it. It’s an easy listening CD to me. I’d have it for background noise. I didn’t think it was horrible or anything. It’s melancholic and doesn’t create much of an exciting, up beat, emotional change for me. It would be perfect to relax to. Maybe to unwind to after a long days work, or cruise up the coastline and reflect upon the past, but it’s more of an album for an older crowd. I don’t see any of these songs hitting any of the top 10 on the billboards unless the media has a reason to hype it up or unless the fan base demands for it. I appreciate it, but really it’s not something I would go pay to see live. If the tickets were free, sure. Other than that, I’d have to say it’s a cd you might not want to buy. Maybe it’s more for the die hard fans that connect to them more than I have.”

Acousticfan’s thoughts on album:
“It has been quite a while since I’ve listened to the Goo Goo Dolls. The last album I listened to was “Gutterflower” and that was back in 2002. After listening to “Something For The Rest Of Us”,  I thought it was worth my time. A majority of the songs musically sound the same but I found it enjoyable. To me, this is a Goo Goo Dolls album that can stand on its own whether or not you have/haven’t listened to their music before.”

G’s favorite songs on this album:

“My favorite song was the last one named Soldier. It has a very nice, spatial dynamic to it and I like the lyrics to it.

‘I know things change
Your world has slipped away
I know things change
But you’re living like a soldier
Who’s caught in the fray
Don’t lose your faith
It’s not so cold
It’s not too late’

I relate to these words greatly. Things are always changing in life and we are constantly changing as people as well. “

Acousticfan’s favorite songs on album:
“I have several favorites: As I Am, Not Broken, Still Your Song, Something For The Rest Of Us, and Hey Ya. I love the lyrics in Not Broken during the second verse  that says:

‘Morning comes and life moves on and when it changed you didn’t know where you belonged. I’ll still catch you when you fall through a past that steals your sleep. And scrawl these words upon your wall, remind you to believe.’

My interpretation of these lyrics is though life is constantly changing around us, we still have to be strong and believe in ourselves. Personally I think this a good and positive messgae to send out and we all need to be reminded of this.”

Our rating for Goo Goo Dolls: Something For The Rest Of Us….

G: “I don’t throw away a lot of music so I’d have to say it was decent.”

Acousticfan: As much as I enjoyed listening to this album, I’m going to have to give Goo Goo Dolls: Something For The Rest Of Us the rating of decent album. It’s not an album I want to always listen to; just from time to time. I appreciate the hard work the Goo Goo Dolls put into this album but it’s not on my must listen to list.

G:” Yeah, I’m sure the shuffle on my ipod will be allowing it to pop in and out of my life here and there.”

Acousticfan: “I want to thank G for joining me on this co-review and we’ll be bringing you more co-reviews in the future.”

G: “Anytime Brian! I love music. If it’s good or bad, I’m always interested in listening to it and good or bad is completely subjective. Thank you for including me.”

Acousticfan: “‘Till next time and keep coming back to site for other postings.
