DC Entertainment Moving HQ from NY to Burbank, Ca

DC Entertainment, a division of DC comics, is comprised mostly of multimedia works, as well as DC Publishing, which focuses on the graphic novel aspect of the company is looking to move from New York to get a bit closer to their Warner Brothers affiliate in Burbank, Ca.

According to Deadline, DCE will be moving their operations to Burbank in 2011. This may involve some layoffs from their New York base. The article backs up the notion that Warner Bros. is planning to bring most of their DC operations closer to home. Perhaps to set up for a big move within both companies as they delve deeper into their multimedia forms. Deadline quotes President of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, Jeff Robinov:

This strategic business realignment allows us to fully integrate and expand the DC brand in feature films as well as across multiple distribution platforms of Warner Bros. and Time Warner. We are creating a seamless, cohesive unit.

Though the companies are working on getting their multimedia ideas up and running, especially since Jeph Loeb is heading the DC Comic TV Division, it seems that they are not taking the path that Marvel is taking with their characters. While Marvel is looking to push towards a joint superhero entourage film, DC is happy where they are and how they are approaching their films. IGN’s interview with the 1 yr running DC Entertainment president, Diane Nelson shows that they are taking a seperate more conservative route in their films.

People make an assumption that we’re going to mirror Marvel’s strategy, for example with Avengers…We do have a very different attitude about how you build a content slate. And it isn’t necessarily about connecting those properties together to build into a single thing. We think we’ve got great stories and characters that will lend themselves to great standalone experiences, and that’s the way we’re focusing on it…we do not spend our days thinking about what Marvel is doing…there is not a single thing we’ve done that has been reactive to Marvel from the creation of DC Entertainment to today. People can speculate, but they are wrong.

Clearly stating that they are a seperate entity from Marvel, they have their own gameplan and their sticking to what they believe will benifit their company. I for one would love to see a Justice League film, but from a company’s standpoint, the route they are taking in not following the Marvel trend is admirable on their part. Perhaps later on down the line, they could get Justice League film as a stand-alone film seperate from their superhero movies.
