You may have already read Midnyte’s review on the movie but there’s one thing that wasn’t talked about much….THE MUSIC. Since we only have eight days left of 2010, I thought this would be a perfect review to end the year with.
The entire score was composed by Daft Punk. For those that don’t know, Daft Punk are two French musicians whose names are Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. Daft Punk started their career back in the early 90′s using recording equimpment to produce their own heavy house music based on hip-hop beats and creating strange sounds, sirens and guitar-driven samples. They signed with a record company in Scotland by the name of Soma Records in 1994 and released their debut single “New Wave“. The single caught on quickly and Daft Punk released three more singles.
In 1996 Daft Punk signed with Virgin Records and a year later, they released their first full length album “Homework“. “Homework” had done so well that it made the top ten in the U.K but fell on a lot of deaf ears in France. Daft Punk continued to expand to the United States and had success with the single “Around The World” in August of 1997. The single made it to number eight on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music/Club Play Charts. Their first album “Homework” was a great start for Daft Punk and they mananaged to release three studio albums and one live album after that. Now their latest album is the music from Tron Legacy.
The score to Tron Legacy is amazing and full of creative and inspiring music. Each piece has its mix of digital/electric sounds combined with a really talented orchestra. Each individual piece will have your attention from beginning to end. The soundtrack to Tron: Legacy was released on December 7, 2010 on the Walt Disney Records label. Here’s the track listing:
1. Overture
2. The Grid
3. The Son Of Flynn
4. Recognizer
5. Armory
6. Arena
7. Rinzler
8. The Game Has Changed
9. Outlands
10. Adagio For Tron
11. Nocturne
12. End Of The Line
13. Derezzed
14. Fall
15. Solar Sailer
16. Rectifier
17. Disc Wars
18. C.L.U
19. Arrival
20. Flynn Lives
21. Tron Legacy (End Titles)
22. Finale
I enjoyed a majority of the tracks from the Tron: Legacy soundtrack except for “Derezzed” and “Fall”. Tracks like “Adagio For Tron” and “Nocturne” are musically pretty, peaceful and subtle in tone. Other pieces like “End Of Line” or “Derezzed” are pieces of music that you’ll hear in a nightclub somewhere. The musical pieces that caught my attention most were “Armory”, “Arena”, “Recognizer”, “Outlands”, “Adagio For Tron”, “Solar Sailer”, and “Flynn Lives”. Depite my own personal interests on these songs, every single track from the Tron Legacy: Soundtrack is a real treat. With that said, my rating for Tron: Legacy-Originial Motion Picture Soundtrack is a definate WORTH OWNING. If you enjoyed the movie or if you’re a fan of movie scores/instrumental pieces, this is an album to add to your collection.
I realize a majority of you only download mp3′s but if you still buy cd’s, there’s a booklet that comes with the cd. Inside the booklet there’s a dedication to Daft Punk by both Tron directors Joseph Kosinski (Tron Legacy) and Steven Lisberger (Tron-1982). I highly encourage any Daft Punk fan to check it out
