THIS WEEK IN MOVIES!

Welcome back movie junkies, it is time for your fix of THIS WEEK IN MOVIES!  I have been keeping up with the movie news for you guys and I have a few updates. Okay so last week I mentioned that there was going to be a live action version of Akira and Keanu Reeves was in talks to star in the project. Well, it turns out Reeves has turned down the role but according to Collider Warner Bros is pushing forward saying:

Production on Akira has not halted or been shut down, as the film has not yet been greenlit and is still very much in the development stage. The exploratory process is crucial to a project of this magnitude, and we will continue to sculpt our approach to making the best possible film.

It looks like the search for a lead continues. One thing that is for sure is that the 21 Jump Street based on the 80′s TV show is still happening. Last week I mentioned that Johnny Depp is making a cameo and here he is a clip talking about his experience:

Depp chooses interesting roles and it will be nice to see him going full circle to the show, now movie, that launched his career. All right, now for some new news. You guys liked Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell in The Other Guys right? I know I did, and it turns out that they will be working together again in a movie called Turkey Bowl. This movie will be a comedy about two guys from rival teams that compete in an annual tackle football game. The movie will also star Alec Baldwin as Wahlberg’s dad, have cameos al la ‘Anchorman‘  , and is written by 30 Rock‘s Robert Carlock, and Scott Silveri (Deadline). Speaking of comedies, check out the preview to this dark comedy called Horrible Bosses:

There is no short of comedic actors in the film and it seems as if they managed to take the tough subject of murder into a comedy successfully. Dark comedies can be a difficult task but not impossible. Okay now it is time for the weekly movie standings with Boxoffice.com:

1. Bridesmaids

2. Thor

3. Fast Five

4. Priest (2011)

5. Something Borrowed

6. Jumping the Broom

7. Rio (2011)

8. Water For Elephants

9. Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family

10. Soul Surfer

There is a good variety of movies currently out right now but I want to flashback real fast to an older classic movie. Do you guys remember Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? How can you not, it was only every kid’s dream to go to a candy factory where just about everything is edible…that movie was a trip! Well, the cast has reunited on the Today Show for the 40th anniversary of the original film. Check it out:

The candyman can! This is one of my favorite movies and it is cool to get insight from the kids that actually experienced it. So if you’re feeling nostalgic or want to fulfill that cinematic sweet tooth then pick this movie up. That’s it for now folks…Until next time take care!

Who do you think would be a good actor for Akira? Do you think the 21 Jump Street movie will be any good? How do you feel about Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell reuniting? Share your thoughts and opinions on anything mentioned down below in the comments section…Thanks!
