THIS WEEK IN MOVIES!

Hey everybody, sorry to leave you hanging but I am back with another THIS WEEK IN MOVIES! So while you are trying to recover from your Memorial Day weekend you can enjoy some movie news. At the top of my newsworthy list is another actor being added to Christopher Nolan’s, The Dark Knight Rises. Information and casting tends to come piece by piece when it comes the Batman movies, but it has been reported earlier by Whargarbl’s Brian “AcousticFan”, that Matthew Modine is cast as a character named Nixon.

Matthew Modine

Slash Film says that Modine will play a politician and possibly a villain. As mentioned earlier Nolan keeps a tight lip when it comes to his films, so we will just have to wait for more. But Modine will be joining  Anne Hathaway,Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who are all new to the series. Shifting from the Bat Cave to the Shire, there is an update about Peter Jackson’s film adaption of  “The Hobbit.”

Peter Jackson

Jackson, who directed The Lord of the Rings movies is back directing his tiny friends in two part series of The Hobbit. The first movie called, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is scheduled to be released on December 14, 2012, and the second part The Hobbit: There and Back Again will be come out on December 13, 2013 (MTV). Martin Freeman will play Bilbo Baggins,  joining other LOTR alums like Orlando Boloom, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Sir Ian McKellan and Hugo Weaving. Oh, and be prepared because this journey will be shot in 3-D! These aren’t hobbits but since we are speaking of little creatures here is a teaser for a new movie:

Yup, that’s the Muppets doing a little parody of The Hangover Part II teaser! After seeing that I am excited to see this flick. It was pretty good, no lie. The Muppets was written by Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller and will have a slew of cameos from stars like Jack Black, Billy Crystal, and more (sheknows.com). The movie which comes out November 23, genuinely looked funny to me but lets look at another trailer that looks like it will deliver some laughs:

Conan O’brien is pretty reliable for some comedy, and he cracks me up. So Coco fans get prepared with your Coco beards and get your pompadours up in support for his documentary Conan O’brien Can’t Stop which hits theaters June 24.  Okay lets get to this weeks standings with Boxoffice.com:

1. The Hangover Part II

2. Kung Fu Panda 2

3. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

4. Bridesmaids

5. Thor

6. Fast Five

7. Midnight in Paris

8. Rio (2011)

9. Jumping the Broom

10. Something Borrowed

It looks like sequels are taking the top slots this week and The Hangover Part II is dominating by breaking Box Office records grossing a total of $135,037,242 so far (Boxoffice.com). So if you’re not familiar with some of these sequels on the list catch up on some originals and head out or you can have a Muppets marathon! Okay you don’t have to but I now leave you with, not just my favorite Muppet songs, but one of my favorite songs which features a sweet banjo, “The Rainbow Connection”:
