THIS WEEK IN MOVIES!

Guess what…I am back for another THIS WEEK IN MOVIES! Glad you guys are here too because I have some news to share, because knowing is half the battle. So if you did not get the reference, it is from G.I. Joe. Yup, whether you like it or not there is a sequel to 2009′s G.I. Joe. But this time around they have some serious muscle joining the cast, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to be exact. There were rumors of his involvement in the film but it was finally confirmed by the Rock himself on Twitter:

We’ve read your comments. We know what you want “…and knowing is half the battle.”

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

Stephen Sommers directed the first film but director John Chu will take the helm this second time around (Hollywoodnews.com). I think adding the Rock to the mix is a good move since he is pretty good at smashing things up as he reminded us of in Fast Five. And since we are talking about smashing things, lets talk about Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

The trailer for the film came out a while ago but a second trailer has been released and it gives us a little bit more about the story and the characters. Check it out:

Those are some angry apes! But as I mentioned earlier this trailer gives us a better insight on what is to become. Lets face it we know what happens to Earth, it’s called Rise of the Planet of the Apes! Speaking of angry things we have Eminem.

Eminem

The rapper who has made a career of being angry is starring in his second film. Eminem is to star in Southpaw, a boxing movie written by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter (Movieweb). Antoine Fuqua, who was to be directing Tupac’s biopic, is now directing Eminem, whose movie is set to come out in 2013. Now switching to polar opposites; from pissed off to all things sweet, Reese Witherspoon.

Reese Witherspoon

Witherspoon who recently won, the MTV Generation award, is producing and possibly starring in novelist Sascha Rothchild’s wedding comedy, Who Invited Her? The story follows a woman who invites herself to a male bachelor party weekend and the craziness goes from there. But Witherspoon has also starred and produced as everyone will see in the upcoming action/comedy This Means War, which stars Chris Pine and Tom Hardy (Collider). Wedding comedies seem to be really successful right now and even though the story of Who Invited Her? sounds pretty basic (naturally bachelor parties tend to be crazy especially if women are there), I am sure it will be funnier than it sounds. Okay so now lets get to this week’s standings with Boxoffice.com:
1. X-Men: First Class
2. The Hangover Part II
3. Kung Fu Panda 2
4. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
5. Bridesmaids
6. Thor
7. Fast Five
8. Something Borrowed
9. Rio (2011)
10. Water For Elephants

Like I said earlier that this past weekend was the MTV Movie Awards and there were some trailers and clips for everyone to look forward to. So in case you missed it, check it out here!
