THIS WEEK IN MOVIES!

What’s happening people? I hope you are ready for another spanking new THIS WEEK IN MOVIES! Yup feel privileged because it is not just new but ‘spanking’ new…Okay enough banter, lets get to it. If you are a dinosaur fan like I am then the thought of this movie might get you T-Rexing around.

The Jurassic Park franchise looks like it is not extinct as Steven Spielberg and writer Mark Protosevich (Thor) have been meeting to start work on a fourth film. Steven Spielberg directed both Jurassic Park 1& 2 while serving as producer on the Joe Johnston (Captain America) directed third: Johnston is in line to also direct the this next dino addition (Screen Rant). There is no news of any of the original actors or other franchise alumni coming back but I am sure the studio will try. I am personally torn since I was a major dinosaur fanatic and the first Jurassic Park really captured my imagination as a kid while the last film really left me uninterested. This could be really good or bad, but Spielberg is still doing the dinosaur deal in his upcoming TV series Terra Nova. Steven Spielberg still knows how to make a good movie as seen in Super 8 while another heavy Hollywood hitter is making some news.

James Cameron talked with Fox News about upcoming Avatar sequels and had this to say about his films coming out in December of 2014 and 2015:

James Cameron

We’re shooting two films back-to-back, so I’m writing two scripts, not one, which will complete a free-film story arc – not really a trilogy, but just an overall character arc so I’m pretty excited about that…We’re doing a lot of preliminary work right now on new software and new animation techniques and so on. We’re creating a new facility in Manhattan Beach so everybody that’s not already dead is coming back.

It’s absolutely going to generate jobs. There is a plethora of visual effects artists and a lot of them are out of work right now, so it’s a really great place to get a lot of talented people….There’s always an expectation. I had to deal with that after ‘The Terminator’ back in 1984. All of a sudden I had a big hit movie and it was ‘what are you doing next?’ But my job is take the audience on a journey and entertain them…The second I am sitting down writing, I just go to Pandora. I don’t think about that stuff, about standing on a red carpet. It has its own life, really. The characters have their own lives.

Cameron can sure make great movies and create jobs. Somebody from the Whitehouse hire this man! All right I joke, but the first Avatar was pretty darn good and I am curious to see where the story for these blue aliens go. Hey stop daydreaming about Pandora and focus, because we are going to talk about something a little more earthly.

There is a new trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes and it give more information on the story. Check it out:

From this trailer you can tell that John Lithgow plays a big part in the story, which also reveals that there is going to be some heartbreak and where the seed of hate begins. Intense stuff. But I am going to lighten this situation with another trailer.

The trailer for the remake of Kevin Bacon’s Footloose is out. I am going to show you the trailer but I apologize that parts of the video are a little pixilated:

You can see that the remake does pay homage to the original with some key moments making it to the 2011 version. Here is the trailer for the 1984 version:

So I am going to say that the new movie might attract some and get hate from some (most likely from major fans of the original or those that detest dance movies). I’ll let you decide what side of the fence you fall on but while you think it over lets look at the weekly standings with Boxofficemojo.com:
1. Super 8
2. X-Men: First Class
3. The Hangover Part II
4. Kung Fu Panda 2
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
6. Bridesmaids
7. Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer
8. Midnight in Paris
9. Thor
10. Fast Five

Go check out some of these movies. But if you’re not in the mood for anything up on the list and can stomach 80′s dance movies go check out the original Footloose. On another note it was reported that Ryan Dunn , star of the Jackass show/movies, and passenger Zachary Hartwell died from a car crash early Monday in Pennsylvania. Dunn, 34, and Hartwell, 30, were speeding 130mph in a 55mph zone, then collided into a guardrail which landed in the woods and caught fire (Daily Mail). Both men were at a bar before the crash and a toxicology report will later be released to determine whether alcohol played a role in the crash. Prayers and condolences go out to his family and friends. This also serves as a reminder for everyone to be safe out there…
